"3 Startup Lessons I Learned the Hard Way" →
Excellent post by David Cancel Over the past decade, I’ve spent most of my professional life building startup businesses. In thinking about what I’ve learned, I realized that the most valuable lessons can be boiled down to three simple lessons: The middle sucks. Your idea doesn’t matter. There is no secret to startup success. Read the rest of the article.

Netflix Instant Accounts For 20% of Peak U.S.... →
I’m glad to see the death of “TV”.  Since subscribing to Netflix I rarely turn on broadcast television, and it’s been almost a decade since we last subscribed to cable.

"Who The Hell Are You Anyways?" →
Paul Boag put together a great posts on the importance of “about us” pages.  People want to know are you financially stable, who’s behind the company, what’s the culture, etc.   This post is a good reminder that I have a pretty lousy about page on this site and the about pages for New Ezra and Style Hatch are non-existant.  Time to work on three new sites!

“We have a natural tendency to romanticize breakthrough innovations, imagining...”
– Steven Johnson, author of the new book Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation.  Read the full context of the quote in the article The Genius of the Tinker. Check out the illustrated trailer for the book that I posted last month.  I’m looking forward to reading this book...

How much does it cost to develop an iPhone... →
Great discussion on the time that goes into development, design and most importantly polish when developing iPhone apps.  This reminds me of many discussions I’ve had with clients over the years educating them on the cost that goes into creating sites and campaigns.

Where do you go when you need to get work done?
Jason Fried recently asked this question on signal vs. noise and the responses were quite interesting. For me when I’m in a creative mode I need a lot of people around to help me really focus in.  I always feel far more productive when I’m in a busy public place, like a coffee shop, with a good pair of noise canceling headphones. Somehow the active act of ignoring all the busyness moving...

Signalnoise Source: 10 PSDs, $75 →
I always love seeing how other designers approach their work, and this chance to see how James White, Signalnoise, creates his complex and beautiful artwork is fascinating.  I’ll be buying this one later today to dig in. For those of you who have been around digital for quite some time it might remind you of when Joshua Davis sold his Praystation hard drive.  I still have mine sitting...
