Last week while we were in NYC for Behance’s 99% Conference I fell in love with Visual Supply Co’s new VSCO CAM iPhone app. With minimal processing options VSCO CAM does a great job emulating the film styles for the likes of Kodak Tri-X, Fuji Superia, Ilford HP5 and many others. Here are a few shots I captured while exploring the city. Follow me on Instagram for other examples.
Congrats to Matthew Buchanan, Mike Harding and team on launching Letterboxd to the public!
Letterboxd is a social site for sharing your taste in film. Use it as a diary to record your opinion about films as you watch them, or just to keep track of films you’ve seen in the past. Rate, review and tag films as you add them. Find and follow your friends to see what they’re enjoying. Keep a watchlist of films you’d like to see, and make lists about any aspect of film, for example: favorite heist films. Import historic data from several popular apps, and add films to your US Netflix instant queue directly from the site.
To top it all of the design and user interaction is beyond beautiful.
Hillman Curtis was one of my strongest sources of inspiration early on in my career as a ‘new media designer’, and as he reinvented himself from a web designer to film maker it was encouragement for me to take huge risks in my career.
“It’s one of those things that I should always remember, to try and take the courageous route.”
—Hillman Curtis: On Reinvention and Taking the Courageous Path
Life is far too short to not take the courageous route.

This is a Beaulieu 4008 ZM 8mm film camera. I just saw someone selling one of these at an online auction, and I’m tempted to bid on it because how is this not the coolest film camera you’ve ever seen? Even if I’d never be able to shoot any 8mm film, it’s got to be handy to own it in case of alien invasion. You just know there’s gotta be a ray-gun setting on there somewhere.

Promo made for the band Dancing Pigeons, that Diesel supports through Diesel U:Music. The film is based on Diesel’s theme for their new collection - Fire & Water. Created by Tomas Mankovsky.
This 6 minute profile of the sound production for the movie Inception is beyond fascinating. It’s easy to watch a movie and appreciate the visual production, but the rich sound that makes any movie is easily overlooked. The techniques used for capturing and layering audio for full impact of gun shots and dream-state explosions are incredible.
If you enjoyed this sound profile check out SoundWorks Collection similar profiles for SALT, Toy Story 3, Watchmen, Avatar, Where the Wild Things Are, and many others.
I have yet to see Inception, but it seems like this profile does not contain any spoilers—mostly clips I’ve already seen in the trailer.
35 films in two minutes: a clever, minimalist motion graphics piece animated by Felix Meyer and Pascal Monaco. How many can you spot?

Storytelling at it’s finest. It’s amazing how much emotion you can pack into a short film without dialog.

Interactive agency Struck/Axiom with offices in Salt Lake City, UT and Portland, OR recently relaunched the brand focused site for Newcastle Brown Ale (with the help of agencies Vitro Robertson and TWC). Their new approach uses almost nothing but beautifully shot video scenes and minimal text overlays. Impressive work!
Brian Freeborn and Mammoth Media took advantage of the first nice day of the year to longboard down Goat Hill capturing it all on their Nikon D90. The color grading and track fit the video perfectly.
