New York based design and animation studio Perception was asked by Marvel Studios to work on a simple graphics package for the upcoming movie Iron Man 2. Impressed by the results, Marvel Studios continued to work with Perception over six months to develop 125 shots, UI concepts, futuristic interfaces, mock broadcast packages, and compositing work to bring it to life.
Perception recently published a detailed case study with motion tests, style boards, concepts and final composites of all their work that went into the movie. Read the entire case study.
Confused with what’s going on with Greece in relation to the world economy? This animation by NOMINT features a big eyed little girl who represents Greece, a sheep with a dog neck cone as their debt, and fanny pack wearing tourists to play the part of their lenders. I’m doubt this piece will clear things up on the matter, but the animation and artistic style is fantastic.

Nice woodtype effect using H&FJ’s Knockout in the title sequence for FX’s new crime drama Justified.
Fantastic example of how motion, interaction, and editorial content can come together to create digital content. Sure this might take far more time than a standard content layout, but if a publisher can create one to two of these featured mixed in with well designed content this will take off.
Together with co-directors Cory Strassburger and Ming Hsiung, we produced a motion magazine cover and feature spread for Viv Mag - an all digital magazine, which would allow us to create content that will be able to live on the iPad and other tablet devices where digital magazines can live.

Rob Chiu (The Ronin) directed, edited, composited and graded this introduction for Else Mobile’s new mobile device. This spot is apart of a larger campaign and Else Mobile website by Los Angeles agency The Visionaire Group. Although the cinematography, production, and score is beautiful and visually stunning, the concept for the campaign seems far to dramatic and ostentatious for my taste, especially for a product consumers should get excited about.

Montreal-based collective Fluorescent Hill created this colorful mixed media music video for N.A.S.A. The scenes were created using photography of the Montreal shipyards which were then hand drawn and illustrated. This music video might be my favorite motion piece of 2009.
“The film embodies the evolution of the shoe and its benefits, rendered in a three-dimensional graffiti-like sculpture that evolves from Classic Style to Performance. The sculpture consists of hundreds of objects, each derived from elements of the shoe. “
